From September 4th to 6th, the class of 2028 freshmen at BCA traveled to the annual freshman overnight trip, Club Getaway, which kicked the school year off on the right foot. The trip was a great experience to allow the freshmen to get to know each other, and form close, lasting friendships and bonds with each other. The Academy Chronicle surveyed and spoke with the freshmen to hear their opinions on the trip, activities, and their overall experience at Club Getaway.

Upon arrival, they were organized into groups, and these groups tackled a variety of exhilarating outdoor activities, ranging from zip-lining and rock climbing to bungee jumping and undertaking the famous Geronimo Jump. According to a trip survey, out of all the freshmen responses, it was almost unanimous that their favorite activity was the Geronimo Jump. The Academy Chronicle also managed to catch up with a few students who shared their experiences.

When asked what their favorite and least favorite activities were, one AMST freshman said, “The Geronimo Jump was really cool. I was super nervous but jumping down was so fun. And my least favorite activity was probably hiking. It was the first thing I had to do right after arriving and I was tired and hot.” Majority of the freshmen surveyed, at 42%, agreed that their least favorite activity was also hiking. Despite hiking being the least popular activity, there were no major injuries so all in all, it was more of a success.

After doing action-packed physical activities during the day, the evenings were spent around campfires with s’mores and games, or stargazing in the clear night skies of Connecticut, which offered all the freshmen a chance to unwind from the day and bond with each other. They participated in fun activities in the evenings such as dancing to music, sing-alongs, a magic show, and an epic team competition.

Club Getaway also provided the freshmen with a diverse variety of food options for breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner. 87% of freshmen surveyed were satisfied and/or very satisfied with the food options provided. When asked what their favorite food was, an ATCS freshman said, “I liked the pasta and cookies the most probably,”

Overall, this Club Getaway trip definitely achieved its goal. Over 75% of freshmen surveyed enjoyed the trip very much. As these freshmen returned to school, they not only brought back memories of the trip, but they also brought back the beginnings of friendships and bonds that will last throughout their years at BCA. “I was really nervous to go on a trip with people I’ve never met, but I don’t regret going because I met so many people and it made me way less nervous to go back to school after that,” an ATCS freshman said. Looking ahead, the class of 2028 have a great school year to look forward to, with the bonds and experiences that they forged at Club Getaway.
